Why Low Carb Diets Help You Lose Weight the Quickest

November 5, 2019 by Lily Leave a Comment

If your goal is to lose a significant amount of weight, in a short space of time, it’s well worth turning to a low carb diet, in order to achieve rapid, yet sustainable weight loss. To discover why it’s a far smarter move to turn to a low carb diet, in order to start losing weight, instead of a diet which prohibits all carbohydrates, simply continue reading to discover why low carb diets are so effective.

Why Low Carb Diets Help You Lose Weight the Quickest:

1. Low Carb diets will help your body boost its metabolism
Increasing your metabolism is important if you’re looking to drop weight as the higher your metabolism is the more calories your body will use to function, even if you’re sedentary and relaxing on your sofa or working in your office. As losing weight is about intaking fewer calories than you consume, being able to burn more calories will drastically increase your chances of being able to consume a daily calorie deficit.
So if you assumed that the only scientific way to boost your metabolism would be to increase the time which you spend each day exercising, think again. As it’s possible to increase your metabolism by following a low carb diet. In time, you’ll find that you’ll significantly increase the number of calories which you’ll burn each day, which will help you quickly shed excess weight.
2. Low carb diets will lower your insulin levels, which will force your body to start to burn stored body fat
Another reason why low fat diets are so effective is that you’ll lower your insulin levels. When your insulin levels are lowered your body will be less likely to store fat cells and will instead utilize any fat which you consume. Which should help you get rid of any stubborn fat deposits, which you’ve been trying hard to get rid of. Whereas if your body has a high insulin level, it won’t have to rely on breaking down fat cells for energy as your body will be able to rely on glucose for energy.
The simplest way to lower your insulin levels is to start consuming a nutritionally balanced low fat diet, which contains low fat foods such as vegetables, fish,
3. You won’t gain the weight which you’ve lost back
While many fad diets can help you temporarily lose weight, if you follow a fad diet, you’re almost guaranteed to gain the weight which you initially lose back, within a couple of months.
However, if you adopt a healthy, nutritionally balanced low carb diet, which will naturally increase your metabolism, you will continue to burn a high number of calories per day, which will ensure that you won’t gain back all of the weight, which you’ve managed to lose.

Better yet, once you’ve reached your target weight, you’ll be able to consume the same number of calories per day, that you expand in a day. As you will no longer need to achieve a daily calorie deficit, if you no longer want to lose weight and are happy maintaining your current weight.
However, if you want to ensure that you don’t gain weight it may be wise to consume 50-100 calories less than you burn per day, just to be on the safe side.
4. You’ll have more energy on a low carb diet to work out
One of the downsides of choosing to follow a low carb diet is that if you eliminate all carbs from your diet, your energy levels may start to plummet and you may become unmotivated to work out. Keep in mind that if you want to lose weight in a short amount of time, you’ll need to aim to consume a calorie deficit each day on top of working out for an hour a day, 6 days a week.
So in order to increase your chances of ticking off all of your weekly workouts, it’s essential to fuel your body sufficiently so that you’ll have plenty of energy to give you workouts you all and your body will have enough energy to rebuild muscle tissue which may be broken down during your vigorous workouts.
5. Low carb diets are typically rich in protein, which your body uses to keep your body functioning efficiently
Low carb diets are normally rich in protein, which your body needs to repair and build muscle tissue, which you’ll need in order to become fitter. Examples of low fat food types which you may want to start incorporating into your new, healthier diet include lean chicken breast and turkey breast, salmon, tuna, eggs and tofu. All of which can be served with fresh, leafy vegetables such as kale, spinach and lettuce.
So if you’re keen to lose a significant amount of weight and to keep the weight which you lose off permanently, it’s a great idea to follow a low carb diet which boasts all the protein which your body will need to continue working efficiently. Especially if you plan on increasing the amount of exercise which you complete on a daily basis.
6. Plenty of low fat foods boast a high glycemic index and will help you feel satiated for longer
If you hate eating foods which leave your stomach hungry 30 minutes later, it’s well worth choosing to follow a low fat diet as many low fat foods also have a high GI rating and will help you feel satiated for longer. Which should prevent you from unnecessarily snacking on junk food, which is normally packed full of saturated fats, which will cause you to gain, not lose weight.
7. It’s relatively simple to follow a low fat diet
While many diets feature a lengthy list of rules which are almost impossible to memorize, following a low fat diet doesn’t require counting calories or following a complex formula. All you have to do is to switch out foods which are high in saturated fats which food types which are low in fat and which are packed full of protein as well as vitamins and nutrients.
So if you’ve been considering following a low fat diet, in order to lose a significant amount of fat in a short period of time, it’s definitely a great idea to follow a low fat diet in order to increase your metabolism and to decrease your insulin levels.

Why and How Low Carb Diets Work: A Guide To Low Carb Diets

November 5, 2019 by Lily Leave a Comment

If you’re considering overhauling your current lifestyle and starting a healthy, low carb diet, it’s well worth learning about the science behind low carb diets. As you’ll soon discover why low carb diets are so effective and can help you achieve sustainable, long term weight loss.

How do low carb diets work?
When your body processes carbohydrates, your body will begin breaking down the carbohydrates which you’ve consumed into simple sugars. This process occurs during digestion. Once your body has successfully broken down the carbohydrates which it has digested into sugar, the simple sugars are then absorbed into your body’s bloodstream. Which will, in turn, increase the amount of your blood sugar levels, which will encourage your body to produce a greater amount of insulin.
How does insulin affect your body? Insulin assists glucose to be absorbed by your body’s cells. While a small amount of glucose can be useful to your body and can help fuel your day to day activities, any extra glucose which is produced which is not quickly used by your body may be stored in your body as fat cells. Which can be extremely difficult to get rid of. Even if you exercise on a regular basis and follow a fairly healthy diet.
So, it should come as no surprise that if you want to lose weight and to manage your weight it’s definitely well worth considering following a controlled, low carb diet. As you’ll effectively decrease the amount of simple sugars which your body will digest and will decrease your blood sugar levels, your insulin levels and the amount of glucose which your body processes. As a result of processing less glucose, you’ll be able to avoid storing glucose as fat cells and putting on weight.
Why are low carb diets good for your health?
1. Low carb diets also help you increase your resting metabolism
While it’s obvious that you can burn more calories each day, by increasing the number of minutes that you spend exercising each day, you can also increase your metabolism by changing your current diet to a low carb diet. Recent scientific studies have shown that individuals who follow low carb diets, on average, burn 250 more calories per day, than individuals who consume an average amount of carbohydrates, on a daily basis.
So if you’d like to be able to burn 250 more calories each day, without having to spend all of your free time working out in a hot, sweaty gym, it’s a great idea to follow a low carb diet. As you’ll burn more calories when you’re sleeping, working in an office or relaxing with friends and family members, without having to work out, by simply restricting the number of carbohydrates which you consume.
2. Low carb food choices are usually low in saturated fat
Another benefit of choosing to follow a low carb diet is that low carb foods are usually low in fat. Better yet, most low carb foods such as tuna, salmon, broccoli, spinach, cabbage, kale, and blueberries are low in saturated fats. If you’re unfamiliar with saturated fats, they are the most difficult type of fat for your body to process and are not required for healthy brain function, like unsaturated fats.
3. Low carb diets do feature a controlled amount of healthy, unsaturated fats
However, you’ll be pleased to discover that low carb diets do feature healthy unsaturated fats, that your brain needs to function efficiently. Some examples of foods which are typically eaten on low carb diets which are packed full of unsaturated fats include nuts, sunflower seeds, olive oil, and eggs.
Why low carb diets are better than no carb diets?
1. Regardless of what fad diets may advertise your body does require some carbs
While many fad diets may try and tell you that you should avoid all types of carbs at all costs, the simple truth is that the human body does require a minimum amount of carbs to continue to function healthily. Especially as carbs are one of your body’s number one sources of energy.
That’s why it’s a smart move to follow a low carb diet, that features carefully chosen carbs, rather than a diet which restricts all carbs. As if you follow such an extreme diet, you’ll be likely to suffer from exhaustion on a regular basis. Which in turn will decrease your chances of engaging in regular physical activity. Which is also necessary if you want to lose weight or to maintain a healthy weight.
2. You’ll be far more likely to stick to a low carb diet, instead of a no carb diet
One reason why so many individuals find it challenging to lose weight and keep weight off in the long term is that they pursue highly restrictive diets, which are hard to follow for more than a few months. Especially as one of the keys to maintaining a healthy weight is to change your lifestyle, instead of simply following a diet.
As in order to maintain your newfound weight loss, you’ll need to continue following the changes you’ve made. Otherwise, you’ll be likely to gain back the weight, which you’ve lost.
If you decide to follow a low carb diet, you’ll definitely find it a lot easier to continue following your chosen diet for the rest of your life, instead of trying to stick to a highly restrictive diet such as a zero carb diet.
3. Maintaining an active social life, following a low carb diet isn’t too much of a struggle
As you can imagine if you were to adopt a no carb diet, you’ll find it extremely hard to enjoy meals out with friends and family members and will also find it difficult to find meals when you travel. However, if you choose to follow a low carb diet, you’ll easily be able to find meal options at every eatery which you find yourself in. So you’ll never have to turn your friends or family members down in order to stick to your diet again!
So if you’re convinced of the numerous benefits of following a low carb diet, it’s well worth finding out more information about low carb diets.

Why Low Carb Diets Work

November 5, 2019 by Lily Leave a Comment

If you’re curious about why low carb diets are so effective and are recommended by countless individuals who have switched to low carb diets in order to lose stubborn weight, continue reading to discover why low carb diets work so well.

Why Low Carb Diets Work:

1. Consuming less carbohydrates will lower your insulin levels
Consuming less carbohydrates will effectively lower your insulin levels. When your insulin levels decrease your body will immediately start to burn the fat which your body has stored, which will promote weight loss. As when your insulin levels are low your body will run out of glucose to burn to create energy and will be forced to burn its fat stores in order to ensure that you have enough energy to function properly.
2. Low carbohydrate meals typically contain less fat and sugar than traditional meals
If you find it difficult to lose weight by following a traditional diet which is high in carbohydrates and sugar, you should find that you’ll lose weight by substituting high carbohydrate foods with low carbohydrate alternatives which are low in sugar and fat.
As an example, instead of eating pasta, rice and bread, you’ll be able to consume steamed vegetables, salads, eggs, nuts, tofu and lean meat such as fish, chicken breast, venison and turkey breast. After a week of eating foods which are nutritionally balanced and low in carbohydrates, fat and sugar, you should start to lose weight.
3. You won’t be hungry following a low carb diet
Another reason why countless individuals lose excess weight by following low carb diets is that you’ll never be hungry on a low carb diet and won’t find the need to relapse and to eat unhealthy junk food.
There are two reasons why you won’t be hungry on a low carb diet, the first is many foods which you’ll consume as part of a low carb diet have a low glycemic index, which means that you’ll stay feeling satiated for longer, than you would if you were to eat unhealthy carbohydrate laden foods.
The second reason why you won’t be hungry on a low carb diet, is unlike diets where carbs are eliminated from your diet, you’ll still be able to consume a small number of controlled carbs. It’s far healthier to follow a low carb diet than a carb free diet as your body needs a small number of carbs in order to function efficiently.
4. Many low carb foods are high in protein, which will boost your metabolism
If you’ve ever wondered if there is a fast, easy way to boost your metabolism, in order to lose weight, there is. If you consume low carb foods which are packed with protein such as chicken breast, your metabolism will increase, which will allow you to burn more calories per day, even when you’re not sedentary and are sitting at a work desk all day or watching TV.
So if you’d love to lose weight without having to spend hours in the gym, it’s a great idea to consider opting for a healthy low carb diet!

How Do Low Carb Diets Work?

November 5, 2019 by Lily Leave a Comment

If you’re curious about how following a low carb diet can help you lead a healthier lifestyle and to lose weight, simply continue reading to discover how low carb diets actually work.

How Do Low Carb Diets Work?

1. Low carb diets help your body get rid of excess water weight
Low carb diets cause your body’s insulin levels to drop. When your insulin levels begin to drop your kidneys will naturally start to excrete sodium, which in turn will allow your body to get rid of excess water weight. As a bonus of getting rid of water weight, you should notice that your body will look and feel less bloated and that it will be easier to obtain the trim, lean, healthy figure that you’re trying to obtain.
2. You will increase your body’s metabolism
Most individuals who follow low cab diets choose to replace foods which are high in carbs such as white rice and bread with foods which are high in protein. Some examples of which include eggs, fish, chicken, tofu and nuts all of which are packed full of protein. Protein is incredible as it will naturally increase your metabolism and allow you to burn a higher number of calories per day.
If you’re looking to lose weight and to successfully keep the weight which you lose off, it’s a great idea to boost your body’s metabolism, so that you continuously burn calories. Even when you’re not active and are sitting down.
3. You will drastically decrease your body’s insulin levels
The reason why the human body stores fat is to store energy for the future. If you’re looking to maintain a trim, healthy physique you’ll want to prevent your body for storing fat as future energy. One easy way to do so is to eat a low carb diet which will decrease your body’s insulin levels. As the lower your body’s insulin levels are the less hormones your body will produce which will inhibit your body’s ability to burn fat.
4. You’ll raise your body’s blood sugar levels
Furthermore, when you consume a low carb diet, you’ll increase your body’s blood sugar levels, which means that your body can use glucose as energy and won’t need to store fat, to fuel your body in the future.
5. Recent medical studies have linked low fat, low carb diets to increased metabolisms
Recent medical studies have shown that eating a low fat, low carb diet can help the average individual burn an extra 250 calories per day. So if you’re looking to burn more calories in order to get into the best shape of your life, it’s well worth following a low carb diet.
6. You’ll feel more satiated if you consume a low carb diet
Low carb diets are normally abundant in protein, which will help you feel satiated for longer than carbohydrates. Low carb diets also regulate your leptin and ghrelin hormones which will regulate your appetite and stop you from consuming extra calories.
So if you’ve been considering following a low carb diet, it’s well worth seeing how great that you’ll feel after a month following a low carb diet. That will boost your metabolism.

Why Low Carb is Better Than No Carb Diets!

November 5, 2019 by Lily Leave a Comment

If you’re tossing up whether to try a low carb diet or a no carb diet, it’s well worth reading the following information to discover why you’re far better off following a healthy low carb diet over a no carb diet. As the simple truth is that low carb diets are far healthier than potentially dangerous diets which totally eliminate carbs.

Why Low Carb is Better Than No Carb Diets:

1. Your body requires some carbs in order to function efficeitnly
While you may be tempted to follow a fad diet which bans all carbs from your day to day diet, in order to quickly lose weight, the simple fact of the matter is that your body requires a small amount of carbs each day, in order for your body to function at an optimal level.
However, it’s still wise to limit the amount of carbs which you consume each day as the average individual consumes a carb rich diet whereas in order to be as healthy as possible, you’re far better off following a low carb diet and to get the bulk of your energy from low fat, high protein foods such as fish, chicken, turkey, eggs, tofu and green vegetables.
2. By choosing to follow a low carb diet instead of a no carb diet, you may be able to achieve a state of ketosis
While not all individuals who choose to follow a low carb lifestyle follow a ketogenic diet, diets which promote a low amount of carbs and a high amount of fats can help individuals achieve a state of ketosis.
According to scientific studies when your body is in a ketogenic state, you’ll burn a high number of calories. However, keep in mind that you don’t have to follow a ketogenic diet, if you’re interested in following a low carb diet as there are many low carb diets which are also low in fat and instead focus on increasing your protein intake.
3. Choosing to follow a low carb diet can decrease your risk of developing heart disease
Recent studies have proven that individuals who adhere to low carb diets significantly decrease their chances of developing a potentially fatal heart disease. No studies have been conducted to discover whether a no carb diet has the same effects as doctors decided that it would be unethical to get their test subjects to follow no carb diets.
4. Your body needs fibre for your digestive system to work well
If you don’t want to end up developing digestive issues such as constipation, it’s important to consume fibre on a daily basis. Thankfully if you eat a limited about of carbs each day, you’ll still get enough fibre for your digestive system to work properly. However if you follow a no carb diet, your body won’t get the fibre which it desperately needs and your digestive system may start to run into serious issues.
So if you were tossing up whether to follow a no carb diet or a low carb diet, it’s definitely a healthier choice to follow a low carb diet.

Dr Bernstein Injections Side Effects

May 9, 2017 by Lily Leave a Comment

Dr.Bernstein injections side effects have been very minimal for me personally, but I will discuss any possible side effects and the benefits of their B12 & 6 injection. B12 shots can provide the body with immediate positive benefits, such as stress reduction, healthy skin, weight loss, energy boost, and enhanced memory.

The great thing about Dr Bernstein B12 injections is that it helps you feel energized unlike other low calorie diets, where you feel lethargic, tired and hungry. The shots are also helpful in increasing fat burn, which I’m sure everyone would love!

Dr Bernstein Injections Side Effects

I personally have had no negative side effects to Dr.Bernstein’s B-12 injections. The only downside is a little but of mild bruising due to my pale skin. Other than that, the vitamin B12/6 injections really help with my energy levels. From the research I’ve done, the Dr.Bernstein injections side effects aren’t very common or serious.

In general, B12 shot side effects all depend on the potency of the injection. Some mild side effects may include soreness at the injection site, itching, diarrhea, and swelling. Serious side effects include muscle cramping, weakness, or an irregular heartbeat. I haven’t heard of any of these side effects happening for Dr.Bernstein patients. I also find it comforting that there are doctors and nurses at the clinic.

Although Dr.Bernstein B12 injections are my least favourite part of my visits to the clinic, I personally find that they help a ton. I’ve tried a lot of diets and felt pretty tired and crappy on them. My first few days on Dr.Bernstein’s was challenging, but I felt amazing after that. (Unless I had a cheat day, then it was like starting all over again).

So, if you have any concerns, I suggest you talk to someone at the clinic. You don’t have to sign up to get information on the diet. I had a list of questions that I called and asked before booking my initial consultation.

Dr Bernstein Weight Loss Cost

May 8, 2017 by Lily Leave a Comment

When I initially researched Dr.Bernstein weight loss cost, I was scared and turned off by how expensive it is. I discuss the pricing breakdown below, but I would like to first discuss why I chose to join, even through the Dr.Bernstein weight loss cost was high.

Dr.Bernstein Diet vs Other Options

After my BED recovery and the decision to live a healthier lifestyle, I wanted a meal plan that had a few factors in it and a few factors not in it. I wanted to be able to eat foods I enjoyed, but have some more structure. I also wanted to lose enough weight regularly to stay motivated. I definitely didn’t want to count calories or points. I also didn’t want to cut out any food groups (like carbs). And most importantly I wanted to work with a company that focused on maintenance.

Dr.Bernstein weight loss clinic reviews were either love or hate, so it was hard to use that as a factor in my decision. The Dr Bernstein weight loss cost was what was holding me back, but after I looked into the price of other companies over time, it wasn’t much more than a lot of other popular weight loss programs.

The reason for this is that you lose weight much faster on the Bernstein diet. So, the Dr Bernstein weight loss cost didn’t seem so bad when I would be spending 2-3 months at another company to lose the amount of weight I could lose in a month at Dr.Bernsteins.

Dr Bernstein Weight Loss Cost

Now that you know all my reasoning, I’ll finally tell you the actual break down for the Dr.Bernstein weight loss cost. Keep in mind that they do have sales fairly often that can save you around $100-200. Also, these prices are for Ontario, Canada and include taxes.

Initial orientation and medical examination: $279
(This price includes your first week of the diet (and vitamin B shots), a diet manual and recipe book)

Ongoing Program Fees
One Week: $169
Two Weeks: $329 (Save $9)
Four Weeks: $629 (Save $47)
Eight Weeks: $1189 (Save $163)

Maintenance Program Fees
Two Months: $170
Six Months: $375 (Save $135)

Starting my healthy low carb lifestyle off with Dr.Bernstein clinic support and structure helped boost my success. It was worth the investment for myself, but I understand most people can’t afford the cost of Dr.Bernstein diet. Although I don’t advise doing the Dr.Bernstein diet at home on your own for health reasons, there are other low carb options with similar results.

Where Can I Buy Low Carb Bread

May 8, 2017 by Lily Leave a Comment

Where can I buy low carb bread was the first question I had as I started my low carb journey. I can live without pasta, cookies, crackers and baked goods, but you can’t take away my bread!

Low carb bread brands in grocery stores don’t really exist here in Canada (that I know of). You can still eat a few grocery store brands of bread and tortillas on a low carb diet, but the amount you can eat is quite limited. They aren’t really ‘low carb bread’. But, just because you can’t buy low carb bread in grocery stores, doesn’t mean they aren’t easy to get! Lastly, something to note is that gluten free does not mean low carb. I prefer little amounts of good bread over most low carb breads I’ve tried.

Where Can I Buy Low Carb Bread

People often ask me, where can I buy low carb bagels? When I first started on my low carb adventures, I never would have thought I could eat bread!!! But it is possible! Thin Slim Foods have a variety of breads, low carb bagels, pastas and treats. Keep in mind, they aren’t exactly like your average bread, that’s why I prefer smaller amounts of good bread over things like Thin Slim, but some people love them. For those in the US, you can buy these products in grocery stores and online directly from the Thin Slim website. For us Canadians, the only place I’ve been able to find Thin Slim breads is online at Low Carb Canada.

Another popular brand that the Dr.Bernstein low carb diet approves are Josephs Bakery.  I tried their pitas and they were pretty good — soft and flavourful. Other brands allowed on the Dr.Bernstein diet are: Carbwise breads, GG Bran Crispbread and Baker’s Deluxe. These can be found on The Low Carb Grocery.

Low Carb Bread Brands in Grocery Stores

Although in Canada there aren’t a lot of actual low carb bread brands in grocery stores, there are better choice breads. Betty Light 100% Whole Wheat bread is a Bernstein favourite, FlatOut and Dempsters Small Whole Wheat Tortillas are all  lower-carb (thin) bread based foods you can find in most common grocery stores.

If you have any goodies to add to this list, please let me know! 🙂
